Neurovascular surgery

Neurovascular refers to both nervous and vascular elements, or to nerves controlling the caliber of blood vessels.

Neurovascular surgery is a special branch of neurosurgery in which diseases of the vascular system, or arteries and veins, are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction. The specialty evolved from general and cardiac surgery as well as minimally invasive techniques pioneered by interventional radiology. Neurovascular surgery treats and manages all vascular diseases and disorders of the brain, including carotid artery stenosis, intracerebral aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation and stroke.
